Biting the Bullet(proof)!

I bit the bullet :) and tried Bulletproof Coffee this morning!  After reading about it in various places, to include fitness magazines, websites, and social media and hearing about it on Podcasts, I decided to see what the fuss was all about.

What is this Bulletproof coffee?  It is a high grade of brand name coffee, that removes myotoxins from the beans to provide a cleaner and more pure brew.  But, not to stop there...and this is where it gets weird for some people, the hot coffee is blended with two tablespoons of MCT Oil, and a tablespoon of grass-fed butter.    I had read and heard that it provides steady energy, mental clarity and curbs appetite.  What a trifecta, right?  So I had to give it a go.

I started light, honestly concerned about that much oil and butter in the early morning.  And thus, I expected little or no benefits...thinking that it would take a few days to notice any benefit after building up to the appropriate "recipe."

I set my coffee to brew last night, so I needed only to drop in the butter, MCT Oil and blend.  I used a Ninja blender and for fear of losing heat in the blending process, I popped the coffee into the microwave for 30 seconds before mixing and blending.  In hindsight, I don't think I needed the extra heat.  I dropped the blender cup onto the Ninja and pulsed 4 or 5 times for just a few seconds.  The results are what you see above...a smooth, light and a frothy hot drink.  It was a perfect morning to try a new coffee blend as we woke to the high 20s this morning.  I had just completed a three-mile run and was pretty chilly and ready for a hot cup.

I expected the taste of movie popcorn, but surprisingly I loved the ultra smooth drink.  It has a Latte taste to it as though the coffee is blended with steamed milk.  For the life of me, I can't figure out how those three things combined taste so smooth and light.    In addition to the taste, I was pleasantly surprised with the results.   Contrary to what I suspected may be a placebo effect, I had an undeniable boost of mental energy and crystal mental clarity.  This kicked in within 20 minutes of starting my cup and lasted until early afternoon.    On top of the clarity and energy, I had a noticeable curb in my appetite.  I usually take a healthy snack for around 10 a.m. and follow up with a healthy lunch at around noon.   At noon today, I realized I had forgotten my snack, and honestly didn't feel hungry.  I ended up eating lunch at about 1, and only because I felt like I should and not because I felt hungry.  I'm still simply amazed at the great results on day 1.

So mark me down as a true believer and someone who will make this a part of my morning going forward.    If I have any different responses or results in the coming days, I will do a follow-up post.  Feel free to share any experiences you have had with #bulletproof coffee as a comment, and thanks for reading.
